Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Suwon was called the “second capital” during the Joseon Dynasty, and the fortress stands at the center of the city. The fortress was built by King Jeongjo, the 22nd monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. Elegant and majestic, it is an architecture that stands out as exceptionally unique in the history of Korean fortress construction. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 1997.

Hwaseong Haenggung Palace

Located within Hwaseong Fortress, the palace was a temporary residence when the King visited and a government office for the Hwaseong governor during ordinary times. The palace has the same shape as the King’s main palace in Seoul. In 1796, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace was the country’s largest temporary castle with 576 sections.

Suwon Hwaseong Museum

The Suwon Hwaseong Museoum was established to promote the excellence of the World Heritage-designated Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Korean culture. Visitors can learn about the fortress’ history and culture through models and related artifacts, and take part in hands-on educational programs.

Paldalmun Market

수 Of the many traditional markets in the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Zone, Paldalmun is referred to as the “king-made market” with centuries of history and tradition.

Fried Chicken Street

Located on the lower side of Maehyanggyo Bridge, the Fried Chicken Street has become a hotspot among local and international tourists following media exposure. Fried in cauldrons, the chicken has a crispy and chewy texture.

Flying Suwon

Flying Suwon is a pile-supported helium balloon that rises 70 to 150 meters, allowing tourists to see Suwon from the sky. It can take up to 20 passengers.



Rha Hye-suk Street

The street was established in memory of Rha Hye-suk, Korea’s first female activist and an artist of Western painting. Her statue, paintings, exhibits, sculptures and other unique works are on display.

Samsung Innovation Museum

This Museum highlights the history of Korea’s electronics industry and Samsung Eletronics-led developments and achievements in information and communications technology(ICY), particularly semiconductors, displays and mobile devices. Also featured are products that left a big mark on the electronics industry.

KBS Suwon Drama Center

A Mecca for drama production, this center is the country’s largest general complex for video production with an open set and special filming site. Guides provide visitors a special tour of the studios and drama sets.



Gwanggyo Mountain &
Gwanggyo Reservoir

Gwanggyosan Mountain is one of the Eight Scenic Wonders of Suwon. The mountain is a habitat for fireflies, an indication of the clean environment in the area. With gentle ridges and thick tree forests, the mountain is an excellent place for a green shower and hiking. There are ten hiking trails, and Gwanggyo Reservoir is nearby.

Gwanggyo Lake Park

This is the country’s largest in-city lake park with nine fountain facilities, a 6.5km-long ring promenade, family campground and a sports climbing center. There are also several spaces harmoniously nested with nature, including the “Quiet Forest”, ”Happy Flower Island” and “Forest of Distant Island.”

Bongnyeongsa Temple

Located at the foot of Gwanggyosan Mountain, Bongnyeongsa is one of the oldest traditional Buddhist temples in Suwon. It was founded by Monk Wongakguksa in 1208, the fourth year of King Huijong’s reign in the Goryeo Dynasty. See a stone statue of the Buddha Triad from the Goryeo era and the Sinjung portrait of the Buddha from the late Joseon period



Haewoojae

Located at Toilet Culture Park, Haewoojae(Mr. Toilet House) is the world’s first toilet-shaped museum with models, exhibits and experiential activities pertaining to the toilet. Visitors can see how restroom culture has changed throughout history.

Manseokgeo(Manseok Park)

Manseok Park has a pleasant dulle-gil(trail) for a leisurely walk. In spring, cherry blossoms are in full bloom around the lake. From May to September, the area takes on different colors when there is a music fountain show.

Chilbosan Mountain

Standing 238 meters above sea level. Chilbosan Mountain has dense forests and natural wetlands. The mountain is home to Yonghwasa and Muhaksa temples. There are eight hiking trails and the terrain is gentle enough for a nice hike.
